The Hummingbird's Nest

One person, many hats, too many tabs, and one very opinionated office cat.

Running a small business often looks simple from the outside.

A post goes up.
An email gets sent.
A flyer appears at an event.
A phone call gets answered.
A schedule gets updated.

But behind every small update is usually one person wearing about twelve different hats, trying to keep the wheels turning without dropping the coffee, the calendar, or the tiny sticky note that had the very important thing written on it.

At ABOLabs, a lot of the behind-the-scenes work happens quietly. Sometimes it happens early in the morning. Sometimes it happens late at night with two computer screens glowing, a half-finished to-do list nearby, and a very determined office cat claiming valuable desk space.

That is the reality of small business marketing.

It is not just making cute posts or finding the right hashtags. It is learning how to tell the story of a company in a way that feels honest, helpful, and human. It is figuring out how to explain services clearly, answer common questions, support clients, update listings, prep outreach, review analytics, respond to emails, plan event materials, and keep the brand moving forward one small step at a time.

Some days, the work is polished and planned. Other days, it is more like, “Let’s fix this before anyone notices.”

There is strategy involved, of course. Social media matters. SEO matters. Google Business updates matter. Community outreach matters. But for a small business, marketing is also about trust. It is about showing people there are real humans behind the logo.

And sometimes, those humans are tired.

They are balancing client needs, scheduling changes, operations, paperwork, content planning, phone calls, invoices, website updates, and the occasional “Why did Google reject this perfectly normal post?” moment.

Small business marketing is part creativity, part customer service, part detective work, part tech support, and part emotional endurance sport.

But it is also meaningful.

Every post, flyer, blog, email, and conversation helps build recognition. Every behind-the-scenes task supports the bigger mission. Every small update helps someone understand who we are, what we do, and why we care.

At ABOLabs, we are not a giant corporate machine. We are a small, local, family-run business doing our best to serve our community with care, flexibility, and heart.

So when you see a post from us, there is probably more behind it than meets the eye.

There may be a spreadsheet open.
There may be a scheduling tab blinking in the background.
There may be a cat on the desk.
There may be a very tired human trying to make healthcare access feel a little more personal.

And honestly?

That is small business.

Messy, meaningful, human, and somehow still moving forward.

From our screens to your feed — thanks for being part of the journey.
